As part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, First Lady Remi Tinubu launched the Higher Education National Scholarship Programme.

The programme, which aims to empower young minds, took off when 46 students from various higher education institutions across the country were awarded scholarships.

The beneficiaries were drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT, according to a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi.

In contrast, others were nominated by various women’s associations, including the National Council of Women’s Associations and the Association of Defense and Police Wives, DEPOWA.

At the ceremony held in the ballroom of the Presidential Villa, the First Lady and the National President of the Renewed Hope Initiative congratulated the beneficiaries, noting that this gesture is part of the initiative’s efforts to ensure that no willing student is left behind.

With the National Scholarship Programme (NASP), we envision a Nigeria where every child , regardless of their circumstances, can access the best education available.

It is not just about textbooks and classrooms, it is about igniting curiosity, speaking innovation and fostering a love of learning that will transcend generations.

The inaugural National Scholarship Programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative is a four year scholarship programme of N1m per year and a laptop for each beneficiary.

Today we are empowering 46 students from across the states, she said.

While encouraging the winners to take their studies seriously as their GPA would be taken into account in subsequent years, the first lady also encouraged them to pursue professional skills.

In her welcome speech, Hafsat Ganduje, RHI Education Director, described the education intervention as one of the five pillars of the initiative.

Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and Mariya Mahmood, Minister of State for the FCT, both attended the ceremony.
