Captain Ahmed Musa believes the Super Eagles are ready to take on Egypt the Stade Roumdé Adjia in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations opening Group D fixture on Tuesday, Sunday PUNCH reports.
Musa who scored a goal in the first half as the Eagles defeated Coton Sports 2-0 in a pre-AFCON warm-up friendly last Friday admitted that the team’s current conditioning puts them in good shape for the encounter.
The Eagles captain who will be making his third appearance at the AFCON in Cameroon has scored once in 12 games in the tournament since making his first appearance in 2013 in South Africa.
“Today’s training session was good and our conditioning is getting better and we are ready for the first game to play,” Musa said after the Eagles training in Garuoa on Saturday.
“Ebuehi is in camp and we are expecting Collins and hopefully he arrives before tomorrow (Sunday).
“We know it is important to win the. Winning the AFCON will it will make a big impact on our country and our families.”
Eguavoen is the only man to have coached Nigeria to win all three group phase matches at the AFCON – when they defeated Ghana, Zimbabwe and Senegal in Port Said at the 2006 finals in Egypt.
His team also bundled out Cup holders Tunisia after a pulsating penalty shootout in the quarter-finals.
