Lagos 2023: Why We Want Sanwo-Olu Again – Women NGO

Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos State Governor)

An all-women Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Women for Change Initiatives (WCI), has explain reasons its members want Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to re-contest his current seat, saying, it would go against natural justice to deny a performer such a privilege that is constitutionally permitted.

Speaking on behalf of the NGO after its monthly general meeting weekend, its leader, Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle, said, since 2019 when Sanwo-Olu ascended the gubernatorial throne, he has not disappointed his people adding that, since it has been realised that he was not a mistake, the only justifiable thing to do is to allow him to continue post-2023.

Speaking further, the woman lawyer cum activist informed that, his re-election into the office for another term would also translate to showing appreciation to the leadership of his party under the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who out of a divine wisdom convinced the people that Sanwo-Olu is the right material for the state.

According to her, Tinubu and others who contributed to give us Sanwo-Olu deserve commendation and compensation with a second term for Sanwo-Olu, reminding that, the same thing Tinubu did for the state in 2007 when he fished out the current Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), who has become a reference point for good governance.

“The way Sanwo-Olu is going, there is clear tendency that he will also end well like Fashola if allowed to go for a second term.

Against that backdrop, it is wise electorally and politically to field the winning team to complete the game because disrupting the game halfway could be counter-productive.

And God forbid, if that happens, posterity would not forgive our generation,” she submitted with all the emphasis at her disposal.

Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle said she based her assertion for Sanwo-Olu’s second term on his several achievements of the governor since 2019 that had earned him both local, national and international accolades and awards, declaring that, so far so good, Sanwo-Olu is not a failure and mandate given to him not a mistake and not misplaced.

She, therefore, enjoined the people to support his second term project so that the good work he has started and still doing would not be truncated halfway, believing that, “Sanwo-Olu, who has not disappointed this while, would not disappoint if given a second term mandate.”
