Four Rescued, Two Missing As Lagos Flood Washes Away Cars

Six people were reportedly swept away by erosion in the Fatoki area of Orile Agege, Lagos.

The victims were in two different vehicles when the incident occurred.

Three people were in each vehicle when the floodwaters inundated an incomplete drainage and submerged their vehicles.

Community residents are said to have warned victims not to drive on the road, but they persisted and continued driving until their vehicles were submerged in the flood.

According to Vanguard, residents at the scene said one of the Lexus Jeep’s occupants swam out of the vehicle while residents helped the other two people out.

They also helped officers from the Lagos State Fire Service at the scene to rescue the fourth person.

However, one of the occupants of the Toyota car swam out and was rescued, while the second occupant, who attempted to swim, and the third, who refused to get out of the car, went missing.

NEMA Southwest Coordinator Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed that four of the victims were rescued while two are still missing.

“Search and rescue operations are ongoing in search of the other two individuals.”
