West African Examinations Council Clears Air On 2022 Withheld Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) reiterated that any results withheld from its exams were due to alleged misconduct.

This was said in an interview with Mr Patrick Areghan, the head of the national office, in Lagos on Thursday.

He spoke in response to media reports alleging that the Council had deliberately withheld results from candidates allegedly for WASSCE 2022.

“Our attention was drawn to reports in some quarters that the council was deliberately withholding results from candidates from some states across the country.”

“This, I mean, is evil, malicious, misleading and a calculated attempt to smear or discredit the Council’s name. It’s utter ignorance.

“For emphasis, any candidate whose score is withheld is the result of an alleged exam error.

“Following necessary investigations into all suspected instances of exam errors, the scores of innocent candidates will be released, while the subject or entire scores of guilty candidates will be annulled.”

“This will be done according to the instructions of the Nigerian Examination Board,” the WAEC chief explained.

According to him, the Examination Board is willing and ready to maintain cordial relations with all its stakeholders.

“However, we have our evidence and anyone who has doubts can turn to us. We are always ready to present our page wherever we are asked to do so.

“We stand by our rules and regulations. We will always apply the same laws across the country no matter what it takes or who is involved.

“We will never apply different laws to different states across the country or give any candidate, school or state preferential treatment on this matter.”

“We will continue to contribute our quota to national development by providing quality services to sanitize the system,” Areghan added.
