Some People In Aso Rock Working Against Tinubu – El-Rufai

Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna State Governor

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has said that some elements in Nigeria’s presidential villa are working against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governor also revealed that the individuals had their candidate for the APC presidential primaries, but the candidate was unable to win.

El-Rufai revealed this on Wednesday while answering questions on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

The governor said that these personal elements were hidden behind President Muhammadu’s wishes. Buhari will do what he thinks is right.

He said: “I think there are elements in Villa who want us to lose the election because they didn’t get their way; they had their candidate.

Their candidates did not win the primary.

They are trying to make us lose the election and they are hiding behind the president’s desire to do what he thinks is right.

I will give two examples: this fuel subsidy, which is costing the country billions of naira, is something we all agreed should be removed.

In fact, I had a discussion with the president and explained to him the reason for his departure.

Because how can you have a capital budget of N200b for federal highways and then spend N2 trillion on oil subsidies?

This is my conversation with the president in 2021 when subsidies start to increase.

He was sure we left. Change. Everyone in the government agreed and everything changed.

The second example I will give is this coin redesign. You have to know the president. People accuse central bankers of redesigning currencies, but no. You have to look back on Buhari’s first outing as president that does it; The Buhari Indiagbon regime changed our currency and did so in secret to catch illegal money hoarders.

It is a very good intention. The president has the right. But doing it now, in the allotted time, makes no political or economic sense.
