The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Abeni Animasahun and her supporters have abandoned her party and defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Animashaun also endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for re-election, saying that the defectors will campaign vigorously for his victory.
At a defection ceremony in Lagos, she said: “We arrived at the decision, a sequence of our in-depth analysis of all governorship aspirants including our own, their antecedents, pedigree, experience, manifestos and wide acceptance across the state. “The combination of Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Quadri Hamzat is above the rest.”
The politician said the Lagosians should not bring the ground achievements of the current administration to the altar of bitter politicking.
Animasahun added: “The Governor’s consistency as a progressive democrat is worthy of emulation by all budding politicians.
We closely observed his energetic campaigning through the nooks, crannies and corners of the state.
He carried out his social contract with the good people of Lagos with his famous THEMES slogan.
“It’s worthy of note that he literally saved the country from the scourge of Covid 19 through pro-active measures that underscored his responsive and responsible attributes.
“Above all large road construction investment in education health services, environment, youth promotion travel Public transport, housing and science and technology need to consolidate during his second term.”
She continued: “It is very meaningful for Lagos State to align itself with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidency at a time like this in order to fulfill our long-held aspirations and lofty aspirations.
“It should be noted that some of the circumstances which have given rise to temporary relevance for the Labor Party are being dealt with quickly.
“His GREATER LAGOS RISING message resonated with everyone and we can safely conclude that we have a Governor in Sanwo-olu who is resolutely committed to taking our state to greater heights for years to come.
“Lagos state is too important to be handed over to ill-prepared, opportunistic and inexperienced political elites.
“A vote for Sanwo-Olu will indeed be an endorsement for continuity and greater development.
