Ubregbo Parmer, a 51-year-old utilities executive, has been sentenced to life in prison for defiling his female co-worker’s 9-year-old daughter.
The Ubregbo convict committed the crime on December 10, 2019, in his office in Magodo, Lagos. Judge Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday opined that the prosecution had sufficiently proved the insulting allegations against the offender.
Soladoye said: “The evidence of the respective prosecution witnesses established the ingredients of the crime against the defendant, who was duly identified by the survivor.
“The survivor recounted in a vivid and bloody way her ordeal at the hands of the defendant.”
The judge added: “I hereby find him guilty of the count of defilement and he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment.
The name of the defendant must be registered in the registry of sexual offenses maintained in the state of Lagos.
Judge Soladoye also berated the victim’s mother for being negligent in her care and for letting her child be taken away by a male colleague without supervision.
“The need for proper and good parenting cannot be undermined in this age and time where desecration and rape are the order of the day.
Parents should live up to their responsibilities,” the judge said.
The state’s attorney, Olufunke Adegoke, presented two witnesses and two pieces of evidence during the trial, while the defendant testified as the sole witness in the case.
Adegoke stated that the victim’s mother took her daughter to the office and let her do other things when the convict quickly took off her pants and had sex with her.p
