A thirty nine year old man, Chukwuebuka Ekwueme, has been detained at the Kirikiri Correctional Center for allegedly attempting to kill a police inspector, Oche Joseph, with a machete in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.
Ekwueme was remanded in custody at the Ikeja Magistrates Court sitting in the Ogba district on Thursday for allegedly fatally injuring Joseph by hitting him on the head and right hand with a machete.
Magistrate Patricia Ojeh issued the order after the accused, who faces a charge of attempted murder, brought against him by the police, was arrested.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Felicia Ogwoo told the court that the defendant had committed the crime on April 17, 2023.
According to the prosecutor, the offense committed is punishable under Section 230(a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The charge read, “That you, Chukyoboka Ekwueme, on the 17th of April, 2023, at about 10.05am at Makinde Police Station, Mafukoku, Oshodi in Ikeja Magisterial District, used a knife to fatally injure one Inspector Oche Joseph. Attempted murder.
He suffered grievous bodily harm on the back of his head and right hand and thereby committed an offense against Section 230(a) (b) Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
Judge Ojeh ordered the prosecutor to send a copy of the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
