Lagos Police Officer Sacked for Extortion

One Sergeant Ekpo Shimuyere attached to Sogunle Division has been sacked for allegedly extorting N98,000 from a young man, the Lagos State Police has said.

Command spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin made the announcement in an interview with journalists on Wednesday.

He also revealed that the Command Protection Division had already gotten rid of the fired Sgt.

According to him, the dismissed sergeant collected his victim’s phone and used the POS operator to transfer N98,000 out of the N100,000 into the boy’s bank account.

Hundein said the police officer’s action was against the ethics of the profession.

The police spokesman recounted: “Police got the complaint from the victim, and the officer denied the crime when he was contacted.

The administration placed him in custody so that he would not falsify the information.

“We wrote to his bank and got his account details. We were able to trace the money to where the POS provider transferred it before transferring it to the officer’s account.

“We have followed due process to obtain his account. The victim was called during the investigation and testified.

“The POS operator was also invited, and he said that the officer requested him to transfer money from the victim’s account to another account.”
