A 39-year-old man has admitted molesting a seven-year-old girl, blaming his actions on drunkenness.
The man, Sadiq Ahmed, from Abuja Road in Yola Township, Adamawa State, said that he had sexual intercourse with the underage girl in the neighborhood after drinking a local alcoholic beverage called burukutu.
The incident happened on Monday June 12th.
The man was arrested by the Adamawa State Police Headquarters. Recounted the incident at the police headquarters on Tuesday.
Emphasizing that he committed the crime while he was drunk.
He said he did not do anything illegal other than burukutu, an alcoholic beverage made from Guinea maize (sorghum) and millet, and he deeply regretted hurting the little girl.
Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed the arrest of Sadiq Ahmed, explaining that the suspect was arrested after the victim’s father lodged a complaint.
The father told police that the suspect came to his home while he and other family members were away and gave his daughter ten naira, took her away and defiled her.
