Mob Kills Butchers for Alleged Blasphemy in Sokoto

On Sunday, the Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the murder of a butcher, Usman Buda, for alleged blasphemy.

According to ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, the HQ’s public relations officer, which confirmed the killing in a statement on Sunday.

At 9:20 a.m., the victim, Usman Buda from the Gwandu Local Government Area, who was a butcher in the Sokoto slaughterhouse, was accused of insulting the Prophet and was about to be lynched by a mob.

According to the statement, “After receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Metro Area Commander and DPO Kwanni led a team of police officers and all other operational commanders to the spot.”

After seeing police officers, the crowd dispersed, leaving the victim unconscious.

Although Buda was rescued and taken to the Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) for treatment, he was later certified dead.

Police said investigations are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators and hold them accountable.
