The deceased recovered by hanging himself on Monday, plunging residents into anguish and confusion.
Some Shata residents told reporters that Salisu’s body was found hanging from a rope in his bedroom by a neighbor on Monday.
His body, they said, had been buried. He was described as a hardworking youth with potential.
His girlfriend, identified as Rebecca Musa, said that the deceased informed her, when she noticed he was disturbed, that he was owing some people in the area N250,000.
According to her: “He told me that those who owed him began to demand their money, and he could not pay.
He told me it was bothering him, and he didn’t know how he was going to pay off the debt. I didn’t know it would result in her killing herself over it.”
Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer DSP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the development.
He, however, said the body was exhumed and taken to the General Hospital mortuary before it was handed over to the next of kin.
He also confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
