Accomplice, One Poni Bada has highlighted the circumstances surrounding his decision to use his nine-year-old son for money rituals.
The 50-year-old Beninese farmer had left his country for Nigeria with his unsuspecting son.
Three other men: Ige Koselo, Benjamin Bulawi and Sagun Shell, accompanied the farmer to the herbalist’s place in Owode, Ogun State, where the money ritual was to be performed.
The trio contributed the 100,000 naira needed to start the ritual process, with an agreement to receive their share of the proceeds when the ritual was successful and the money began to flow.
But this was not to be, as a team of policemen from Zone 2 Command, Onikon Lagos, acting on intelligence, raided, stormed the herbalist’s temple and arrested all the suspects, while the sacrificial lamb was saved.
Crime Guard learned that the nine-year-old boy, Agbe, was brought from Benin Republic in May 2023, to work on a farm land where he was paid N5,000.
A month later, his father is said to have called his contact in Nigeria, Benjamin Bilubi, to complain that his son was paid too little for the farm work.
Dad is talking Explaining how he came up with the idea of using his son for money rituals, the boy’s father, Bada, said: “I have ten children from three women.
The state of affairs went from bad to worse. I could not feed my children.
Then I decided to use my last child, Agbe, for a money ritual so that I can educate other children and have better living conditions.
“In May 2023, I left my hometown of Jakotome, Republic of Benin, for Nigeria, to visit my brother, Benjamin Balobi, in Ilaro, Ogun State, who earlier told me that he was doing well as a farmer and the owner of a farmland was looking for workers.
That’s how I brought Agbe to Nigeria to work.
But the idea of using it for money ritual came when I realized that the amount given to my son as salary was very poor.
I asked balobi to help me get an herbalist that would help me with the money rituals, he said he didn’t know anyone but promised to help me find an herbalist that he might have information on.
Egg told Koshilo (one of the suspects) who found someone who promised to take us to the herbalist’s place in Sango.
But we were taken to another herbalist in Owode, where we were arrested”.
The deal Also speaking, one of his associates, Segun Shile, a commercial motorcycle rider, said the four herbalists who contacted them initially refused to engage in money rituals.
He expressed his regret, saying, “If I had known, I would have withdrawn.
The herbalist I took him to in Owode, Ogun State warned us not to use the boy.
I called the herbalist on the phone and he said there is no such thing as a money ritual.
A few days later, he invited me to bring the person who would be used for the rituals.
Immediately he saw the boy, he clearly said that the child’s head was too strong to be used for rituals.
He however demanded N100,000 to take to another herbalist who would perform the rituals.
“Three of us: Billoby, Kushelo and I, who were there with the boy’s father, then went outside to talk about collecting the money.
Balobi brought N50,000 and Koshelu and I added N25,000 each.
We told the boy’s father not to pay as he was donating his son for the ritual.
The agreement was that he would give us what would come out of the process.
When we gave the money to the botanist, he picked up his phone and called someone.
To our surprise, the next thing we saw were policemen”.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Command, AIG Muhammad, who confirmed that Ali had arrested the suspects and rescued the minor, said that the minor would be taken home at the end of the investigation.
