- The Osun government expressed disgust and anger at the abuse of innocent construction workers
- Victims of these undesirable activities are required to report such incidents to law enforcement agencies
The Osun State Government has warned land grabbers, popularly known as Omo onile, to desist from their nefarious activities or face the full consequences of their illegal actions.
The state governor, Ademola Adeleke, made this known in a statement signed on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
The statement said Adeleke, while responding to reports that have flooded his office of harassment and harassment of artisans and contractors at construction sites across Osun State, expressed disgust and anger at the reign of violence on innocent construction workers by the so-called Omo oniles.
The statement warned that: “Government will not tolerate the appalling tactics of the Omo onile to force landowners to part with their hard earned money.
Security agencies have been instructed to deal harshly with anyone involved in this harmful practice.
“I have received several requests from Osogbo, Ife, Ilesa, Ikirun, Iwo and almost all major cities in Osun State.
Recently, I received more than three petitions from Osogbo alone, in which perpetrators allegedly maimed and even killed some workers at the site,” the governor reportedly said.
“I have information about the arrest of technicians’ work equipment and even the illegal detention of contractors and site workers. All of this must stop immediately.
“Later on, I ordered the security services to carry out a special operation to track down the perpetrators.
Our administration will not tolerate lawlessness and unwarranted disruption of the lives of innocent citizens.
“I also request the victims of these adverse activities to report such incidents to law enforcement agencies so that appropriate action can be taken.”
