Cult clash: Ogun Imposes Dusk to Dawn Curfew on Sagamu

  • The curfew followed recent clashes between rival sectarian groups that engaged in a supremacy battle
  • The restriction on the movement of people and vehicles is from 7pm to 6am

Ogun State government has imposed curfew on Sagamu, the headquarters of Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

The curfew follows recent clashes between rival cult groups, which have been locked in a battle for dominance since Wednesday last week in which as many as 20 people have been killed.

Restrictions on the movement of people and vehicles are in effect from 19:00 to 6:00.

This was contained in a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Lekan Adeniran, made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, assuring residents of the town of their safety and property.

Therefore, the state government called on Sagamu residents to comply with the restriction order, waiting for a time when the area’s security improves.

He added that the police and other security agencies are on top of the situation to restore normalcy.

“This is to notify the residents of Sagamu and its environs of the complete restrictions on human and vehicular movement as a means of strictly controlling the security architecture of the area and protecting people’s lives and properties,” the statement read.

“We therefore request residents to strictly comply with this restraining order and cooperate with security agencies to restore normalcy and immediately punish the perpetrators of these dastardly acts.”
