Four Police Officers Were Killed as Gunmen Stormed a Police Station

The Nigerian Police, Borno State Command has confirmed the killing of four police officers by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Friday in Gaziram, headquarters of Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.

Confirming the incident to the Leadership correspondent in Maiduguri on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Nahon Daso, said the bodies of the slain policemen had been recovered.

Similarly, sources, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, said that the terrorists disguised themselves and sneaked into the city around 11 am on Friday and headed straight to the police station in Gajiram town and opened fire, killing four police officers.

Makama added: “Sources said mobile policemen at the police quarters engaged in a fierce gun battle with the terrorists and prevented them from burning down the quarters.

“It was learned that when the soldiers of the ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ Joint Task Force invaded the scene, the terrorists had fled.”

Gajiram is located about 73 kilometers from Maiduguri, the restive capital of Borno State.
