We are not interested in ruling Nigeria, give us Biafra – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has frowned at the claims in some quarters that President Muhammadu Buhari would handover to an Igbo man in 2019.
The group, while describing it as a political gimmick framed out to distract Ndigbo fighting for the actualization of their beloved Biafra, affirmed that they were not interested in ruling Nigeria any longer.

Spokesman of the IPOB, Emma Powerful who spoke to newsmen Wednesday on the issue, said those flying the kite of Igbo presidency in 2019 were merely trying to make the agitators stop their protests.

Powerful said what IPOB wants is the to release their leader, Nnamdi Kanu from the detention and to allow Biafrans to cede from Nigeria.
According to him, politics of compensation came to play after the June 12, 1993 deadlock when the Yorubas were compensated with Obasanjo presidency in place of M.K.O. Abiola’s annulled election.

He said same applied to President Buhari, who he claimed was compensated because of Boko Haram insurgency.

His words: “If politics of compensation was used to favour Obasanjo in place of June 12 annulment and was also used to favour Buhari in place insurgency, that is their own cup of tea.

“But for us in IPOB, we are not interested in that politics of compensation whereby we are being told that an Igboman will become Nigeria’s president in 2019.
“All we want or are interested in is for Nigeria to release our leader, Kanu and then allow Biafra to be and not Igbo presidency”, he stated.
