Mr Rauf Olaniyan, Oyo State Deputy Governor

The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Rauf Olaniyan, was removed from office.

Olaniyan’s removal followed the state assembly’s acceptance of the report of the seven-member panel appointed by the chief justice to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the deputy governor in plenary session on Monday.

According to Within Nigeria, Olaniyan was elected on a joint card with current governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) platform in 2019 until recently defecting to the state’s opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the Assembly Majority Leader, the Honorable Sanjo Adedoyin, the deputy governor was found guilty and charged with all allegations and all complaints made against him.

The Assembly approved Olaniyan’s removal from office based on Section 188(9) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
