Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stated that given the high budget allocation, education is one of his government’s main objectives, noting that in the last three and a half years the state government has started massive public infrastructure development schools and the implementation of over 1000 educational initiatives.

According to information gathered from Lagos State website, speaking virtually at the opening ceremony of the Y2022 Lagos Education Summit held at Eko Convention Center, Eko Hotels and Suites, with the theme: “Creating a Sustainable Fit-For-Purpose Education Model,” Sanwo-Olu paid tribute to the sublime works of the State Department of Education and other related bodies in improving the state education system.

He said: “Because of our strategic intervention, our students have improved tremendously in their WAEC exams.

The well-being of teachers is also vital and I am pleased with our modest success, including the EKO EXCEL program meeting numerous targets.

At the end of the summit, there would have been a real conversation about the appropriate model of education”.

In her opening speech, Education Commissioner Ms. Folasade Adefisayo remarked that Lagos State is the sixth largest economy in Africa and as a key player on a global scale cannot be ignored.

She explained that the Lagos State Education Summit is important as some of the outcomes would help offer solutions to the known problems in this sector and pointed out that the Lagos State 30-Year Development Plan is the driver for the T.H.E.M.E.S. development agenda in which education is a priority”.

She said: “Lagos is about the daring to dream, the daring to imagine and make it happen.

Among other things, Nigeria has the largest number of children who do not attend school.

Therefore, tremendous work needs to be done to systematically improve and improve our education sector for the benefit of children and future generations.”
