Forcing Lecturers To Resume Is Like Forcing Doctors To Treat Patients – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said any Labor Court ruling that forces faculty back into the school will have negative repercussions.

According to Within Nigeria, ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke said at a meeting with House leaders on Tuesday, if faculty are forced into school, what kind of education do they expect from students?

It is recalled that the federal government dragged ASUU before the National Industrial Court during ASUU’s seven-month strike.

Judge Polycarp Hamman adjourned the case Monday after hearing the attorney’s arguments on behalf of the parties.

The court is expected to meet on Wednesday.

Before the retreat, Mr Osadeke said forcing teachers back into school is like forcing doctors to treat patients.

“If the court forces the lecturers to go to work tomorrow, what kind of teaching will they do?

If the court forces Nigerian academics – say, to go and teach against their will – just like the court forces a doctor to treat a patient against their will, how many of us will go and meet that doctor.”

Spokeswoman Femi Gbajabiamila had stated that the meeting must produce a resolution ending the strike.
