Seventeen Arrested For Election Violations in Lagos

During the Lagos governorship and houses of assembly elections on Saturday, at least seventeen suspects were detained for various electoral offenses.

Including harassment ballot snatching Possession of fake identity documents Illegal possession of firearms, etc.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos Police Command spokesman, among the suspects detained is a woman.

A list of people detained for various election-related offenses is being compiled, and will be made public on Sunday, according to Lagos Police Commissioner CP Idowu Owohunwa, who told journalists on Saturday.

However, Hundeyin, in an interview, told NAN that the 17 arrested suspects were involved in 21 cases, including an attack on INEC officials, vandalism and snatching ballot boxes. Others are, possession of fake INEC IDs, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, assault causing harm and illegal possession of firearms.

Hundeyin said all 17 suspects were taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba for further investigation.

He said those accused of electoral crimes will be handed over to the National Elections Commission for trial, while those accused of other criminal offenses will be charged in court.
