The Adamawa Police Command said they had arrested a seventy year old man, Usman Ibrahim, for allegedly raping two minors in the Nato La Local Government Area (LGA).
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Yola.
He said the survivors were children aged four and seven, both residents of Ajiya Street, Jimeta.
According to the information gathered from Within Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, ordered a thorough and medical investigation to be carried out.
“The Adamawa State Police Command, on April 4, arrested a seventy year old man for raping two minors in Jimeta, Yola North local government area.
“It is alleged that the suspect lured the two victims into his room, at close range from the victims, and took advantage of them while they were on their way to a lesson and had unlawful carnal acquaintance with them.
The victims’ father reported the incident to the Division’s police headquarters, Gemita, after noticing unusual pain in the children while urinating.”
Nguroje further stated that the preliminary investigation so far reveals that the suspect is the father of three children and is now leaving alone after separating from his wife ten years ago.
He added that CP expressed concern over the unfortunate event.
Order officials in charge of State CID’s Family Assistance Unit to conduct serious investigations and prosecution.
He advised the public, especially parents, to be very wary of their children against criminal-minded elements looking for whom to take advantage of, and to report suspicious characters to the Police.
He equally called upon the general public, especially parents, to join the command fight against all forms of gender-based violence and promised to prosecute the perpetrators as per existing laws. (NAN)
