Eid-el-Fitri: DSS Calls for Vigilance, Intercepts Gunmen, Weapons in Kano

The Department of State Services (DSS) has called for vigilance as Muslim faithful and the entire Nigerians celebrate eid-el-Fitri whe wishing canvassing a peaceful and joyous celebrations.

The DSS conveyed his goodwill message through a statement signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Peter Afunanya,  and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

The statement further informed the public of the arrest by the Service of two gunmen in Kano on Thursday in whose possession where recovered dangerous weapons, which were hidden in a sack of yams, and other items including Two (2) AK-47 assault rifles; Two (2) Empty AK47 Magazines and a red boxer motor cycle.

The statement revealed that “The suspects were on transit to deliver the arms for a planned attack in one of the states in Northern Nigeria.”

The DSS maintained that the development underscores the need for citizens to be extra vigilant and report any unusual or suspicious movements, persons or acts to the security agencies nearest to them while calling on operators and patrons of fun, hospitality and tourism centres to be cautious during the festive periods.

“They should scale up measures to ensure safety of their facilities,” the statement added.

The Service reiterated its commitment to its constitutional roles of providing intelligence to nib crime in the bud, and pledged to work with sister agencies and other stakeholders to ensure adequate security during and after the festivities.
