Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has explained why he slapped a police officer in a recent viral video.
In a widely shared video, the afrobeat singer can be seen assaulting a police officer who is on duty.
Kuti responded via his Instagram account on Saturday, saying police tried to kill him and his family.
He said the officer has expressed regret and has been pardoned.
He urged anyone who claimed influence to mind their business and prevent the police officer from losing his job.
Kuti wrote: “He tried to kill me and my family.
I have the proof, but I’m not chasing influence.
He apologized and I agreed not to press charges. “Get busy so the poor guy doesn’t lose his job” [sic].
