Police in Benue have arraigned a twenty one year old mother, Nguse Nyita before a Makurdi Magistrates Court on Wednesday for allegedly feeding her one-year-old child herbicide that caused her death.
Insp Police Prosecutor Samuel Itodo told the court that the Nguse of Agam Community in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue consequently committed the culpable murder.
He said the police received information about the crime on May 16 and the accused was arrested immediately and he confessed to the crime of his own free will while being questioned.
He added that Nguse’s offense was contrary to Benue’s 2004 penal code.
The presiding judge, Mrs. Ajuma Igama, did not accept the defendant’s plea for lack of jurisdiction and adjourned the case to June 21 for further mention. (NAN)
