Ogun State Student Commits Suicide After Losing Tuition due to Gambling

A student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, Samuel Adekoya, has killed himself after losing his and his friend’s fees in online gambling.

It is believed that the deceased killed himself by consuming a chemical substance.

He reportedly used his tuition money to gamble online on Friday but lost.

Adekoya, who was a student of the National Diploma II of Electronic Electrical Engineering, allegedly committed suicide on Monday as his colleagues were preparing for their first semester exam.

He defrauded his friend, who shared the room with him, by taking his password and using his fee to play games, and also lost.

It was gathered that the school had warned that no student would be allowed to take an exam without completing their registration.

Adegoke was reportedly rushed to the school clinic.

He was later transported to a specialized hospital outside the school in Ilaro before his apparent death.

Confirming the incident, the Deputy Registrar, Public Relations of the school, Sola Abiala said the school quickly referred him to a specialist hospital to save his life but he was pronounced dead shortly after he was admitted to the hospital.

“He died on Monday morning while the exam was about to start” Punch quoted him as saying.

He said that at the specialized hospital, it was found that the deceased student had taken the chemical.
