Three Police Officers Were Killed by Gunmen

Three policemen and two militants were killed on Wednesday in an exchange of fire between policemen and militants at a police check post in Ochiri, Onisha Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.

In addition, a police officer was shot and is currently receiving medical treatment.

It was gathered that the gunmen who operated with a Lexus car on approaching the checkpoint, opened fire on the policemen who were on a stop-and-search operation in front of Oshiri Police division Wednesday morning.

The Oshiri attack comes after policemen were attacked and a policeman killed in a stop-and-search operation at the Union Bank roundabout on Monday.

A statement signed by State Police Public Affairs Officer SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya also announced that criminal items were seized from the gunmen.

“Today, 24/05/2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m., HQ personnel stopped and searched the Oshiri Division, under attack by armed thugs.

“Unfortunately, three policemen lost their lives, one was injured and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

“Tactical groups were immediately sent to the area to pursue the hooligans.

“As a result, two hooligans were neutralized, while others fled with bullet wounds.
