Buhari Apologizes to Nigerians for Cashless Policy Agony

The outgoing President, Muhammadu Buhari has apologized to Nigerians for the pain and suffering caused by the currency swap or the implementation of the cashless policy.

The President apologized in his farewell broadcast this morning as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

He said he aims to renew the economy.

The President called on all Nigerians to be more vigilant and to support the security authorities by ensuring that “our values, which are the keeper of our brothers, guide our actions”.

Buhari said: “In the course of revamping the economy, we made some difficult choices, most of which yielded the desired results.

Some of the measures led to temporary pain and suffering for which I sincerely apologize to my fellow countrymen, but the measures were taken for the over-all good of the country.

“Recognizing the need to provide adequate infrastructure to sustain economic growth, we have completed centuries of projects and processes, among them the Petroleum Industry Act, the completion of some energy projects, the completion of the second Niger bridge and several important roads connecting the cities.

“Our fight to ensure that all Nigerians live in a safe and secure environment has yielded great results.

While completing my tenure, we were able to significantly reduce the incidence of banditry, terrorism, armed robbery and other crimes.

“To maintain the gains made so far, I call upon all Nigerians to be more vigilant and support the security agencies to ensure that our values govern our actions by being your brothers’ saviors.

“Until now, I still mourn for my children in captivity, mourn with the parents, friends and relatives of all those who lost their loved ones during the days of senseless looting and carnage.

For all those illegally imprisoned, our security agencies are working around the clock to ensure their release without harm.”

Buhari will hand over the baton to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
