INEC Refused to Provide Documents we Asked for — LP, Peter Obi Allege

The Labor Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said on Monday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had refused to provide the documents they requested.

Obi and LP are petitioners of a petition marked CA/PEPC/03/2023 challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu.

The respondents are Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Bola Tinubu and Vice Chairman Kashim Shettima and All Progressives Congress (APC).

LP and Obi told the presidential petition court that because INEC refused to provide the documents they requested, So they can’t continue with the case.

Mr Jubrin Okutepa, LP’s lawyer, told the court that all the documents his client requested from INEC were not provided.”

We wrote several letters detailing the documents we need to substantiate our petition.

Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN’s lawyer for INEC, told the court that he received a letter dated May 15 from the petitioners and has not received any other letter after that.

Mr. Wole Olanipakun, SAN lawyer for Tinubu and Shettima promised to ensure that a meeting between the lead lawyers is held to address the issues raised.

The petitioners brought their seventh witness (PW7) to appear and testify through their lawyer, Patrick Iqueto, San. Loretta Ogah, the subpoenaed witness, is the architect of Amazon Web Services Incorporated (AWS).

At the opportunity to adopt his witness statement on oath, respondents objected. Mehmood told the court that the petitioners only gave him the documents.

“Today I will not be able to interrogate the witness, I need to study the documents,” he said.

Olani Paquin also objected to passing witness statements.

He said, “We are not saying that a witness should not continue her testimony.”
