Assistant Superintendent of Police Killed at Checkpoint in Ondo

Who was stationed at a checkpoint along Ifon/Sobe highway in the Ose local government area of Ondo state was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene after the accident.

According to GalaxyTV, the alleged driver was said to have refused to stop and drove at high speed towards Edo state.

Ondo state police spokesman Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya confirmed the incident, explaining: “A driver of a suspected vehicle, when the police tried to stop him (the driver), he did not stop.

“So, our officers were alerted on the highway but on reaching a particular spot around Ifon, the driver swerved and hit an ASP and the officer died instantly.

“However, the driver was traced and fortunately for us, he (the driver) was arrested by Sobe troops in Edo state.”

In another news, Sehinde Abolusoro, an FRSC officer in Ondo State, was killed in a road accident in Akure in November 2017.

He was crushed to death after a speeding driver lost control of his vehicle.

The 36-year-old officer was killed on the busy Ilesa-Akure highway while on duty.

It was established that Abolusoro was crushed to death after checking and passing some vehicles.

The deceased was the Deputy Road Commander (DRC) of the Ondo Sector Command.

A witness who confirmed this to Sahara journalists, said the FRSC officer was pinned on the side of the road and later lost his breath.

“The driver, at full speed, was trying to avoid a large truck and in the process veered from his lane.

In the same process, he crashed into the policeman who was standing near the side of the road to control other oncoming vehicles,” the witness said.
