Was achieved to independently generate 3.6 MW The Ekiti State Government has completed and commissioned the first Independent Power Project (IPP) since its inception to enhance electricity supply in the state.

The initiative aims to increase electricity supply, increasing the total number of megawatts available for consumption, in addition to the amount of electricity the state receives from the national grid.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who inaugurated the project on Friday, November 24, 2023, said the laudable achievement was attributed to Fenchurch Power Ltd.

He said that it was achieved through a partnership to produce 3.6 MW independently.

The project, which was initiated about two years ago under immediate past Governor Kayode Fayemi, sought to address the inadequate power supply to Ekiti State where the national grid provided an average of 13 MW per day to the entire state.

“I am pleased to learn that the first Independent Power Project (IPP) in Ekiti State has been completed and commissioned by my successor, Governor Biodun Oyebanji @biodunaoyebanji.

“Two years ago, we initiated this project in response to the very poor supply of electricity to Ekiti through the national grid system.

“We recognized that the only way to prevent this issue from further negatively affecting our socio-economic and industrial growth was to provide a significant and innovative intervention.

“With the success of this project, I am confident that investors in the power sector will take advantage of the ‘willing sellers, willing buyers’ model,” ex-governor Fayemi enthused.
