Rotimi Akeredolu Remains Governor of Ondo State – Tinubu Confirms

  • After hours of deliberations between the president and state officials, including members of the All Progressives Congress, the lieutenant governor, lawmakers and others embraced peace and vowed to maintain the status quo

The presidency confirmed that Akeredolu remains governor in a statement.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the conflict between supporters of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, appears to have been resolved months ago, with Akeredolu still serving as the governor of the state.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngila, made the claim in a statement on Saturday.

The statement was made in response to rumors that the state legislators may have received instructions from President Bola Tinubu to declare Ayedatiwa as acting governor in line with the principle of necessity.

Earlier reports said that after the President and state officials, including members of the All Progressives Congress, gathered at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa for hours of deliberations, the Deputy Governor, MPs and others involved embraced peace and vowed to maintain the status quo, Abuja , until late Friday night.

In the statement, the Presidency confirmed that Akeredolu remains the governor.

The statement read: “In his bid to restore political stability in Ondo State, President Bola Tinubu late on Friday waded into the months-long crisis between factions loyal to the executive governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and the deputy governor, Aiyedatiwa.

This follows marathon negotiations between the President and the Deputy Governor, representatives of Governor Akeredolu, Ondo federal and state legislators, All Progressives Congress chapter officers and other stakeholders in the state at the State House, Abuja.

“The President advised all warring parties to bury the hatchet and embrace peace with appropriate commitments.

“This means that even though the leadership of the State House of Assembly and the APC Chapter in Ondo State are retained, Governor Akeredolu remains the Chief Executive of the State, Aiyedatiwa remains the Deputy Governor and members of the State Executive Council continue in their respective offices.”
