Six Cars Wrecked and a Suspected Member Murdered in a Struggle Over Cult Domination

Cult conflicts in the Ajegunle neighbourhood of Lagos claimed the life of a suspected cultist, age 25, on Saturday, according to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State police spokesman.

He informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that two individuals had been taken into custody by police in relation to the altercations.

According to Hundeyin, there was a free-for-all between suspected cultists on Nasamu and Iyalode Streets in Ajegunle when police received a distress call on Friday.

He claimed that during the altercations, six commercial vehicles at the Boundary Roundabout in Ajegunle were damaged by the suspected cultists.

“Teams of policemen mobilised to the scene and dislodged the suspects, many of whom fled the scene,” according to the report. However, police officers searched the area and found two of the thugs hiding there.

According to Hundeyin, “one other suspect, a 25-year-old, was rescued and taken to the hospital where he later died after suffering serious injuries during the altercation.”

He gave his word that all was normal in the affected regions and that patrols by foot and car had been put in place to prevent any more threats to law and order.

According to Hundeyin, the inquiry is still ongoing and efforts are being made to apprehend the cultists who are escaping.
