Twenty Highly Armed Suspects who Invaded the Assembly Premises in Ibadan are Suspected of Being Yoruba Nation Agitators

Twenty armed suspects suspected of instigating the Yoruba nation were detained in Ibadan for breaking into the Assembly complex.

Twenty accused Yoruba nation agitators have been taken into custody by Oyo State police in connection with Saturday’s purported assault of the state’s House of Assembly complex in Ibadan.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a gang of people allegedly broke into the complex near the government secretariat with the intention of taking control of it.

In a statement made in Ibadan, Oyo State police spokesperson SP Adewale Osifeso confirmed the offenders’ arrests.

According to Osifeso, the twenty suspects who were taken into custody had three pump action pistols, two expended cartridges, 29 life cartridges, 67 cutlasses, five bulletproof vests, and six pairs of boots on them.

Public Address systems, three berets with Oodua insignia embroidered on them, seven belts, eleven Oodua Nation camouflage outfits, an unregistered bus, and three motorcycles were also among their possessions, he continued.

Osifeso emphasised that the police, working with sister security services, successfully stopped the demonstrators’ effort to seize control of the secretariat by force.

The accused arrived in an unregistered bus fully armed, carrying an Oodua Nation agitation flag, cutlasses, pump action rifles, ammo, and various charms.

They were dressed in military camouflage.

“They were completely subdued and defeated by police officers and men working together with those from sister security agencies,” he said.

According to Osifeso, the defendants’ actions were treasonous, unpatriotic, and clearly related to terrorism.

He promised that law-abiding residents would continue to be protected by the police, and that anyone proven guilty would receive the proper punishment.

According to the spokesman, Oyo State Police Commissioner Mr. Adebola Hamzat has already directed an investigation and an extension of the dragnet to apprehend further suspects in connection with the event.
