Following President Tinubu’s Speech, Organizers Decide to Halt Street Protests so That Conversations can Take Place

The Jos End Bad Governance Protest 2024 Coalition claims that in order to allow for discussion with pertinent parties, it has postponed its public demonstrations for a period of two days.

The suspension was announced by coalition spokesperson Mr. Enoch Vilret during a Sunday news briefing in Jos.

He stated that the suspension was in place from Sunday, August 4, to Tuesday, August 6.

According to Vilret, the decision was made to facilitate communication with the appropriate authorities, as President Bola Tinubu had said in his Sunday national broadcast.

He added that the coalition was still dedicated to its goal and hoped that this time would allow for fruitful dialogue.

He claims that if the conversation doesn’t start in the allotted time, they will return to their nonviolent protests.

We would like to make it clear, nevertheless, that we are not the ones who are planning this demonstration.

Rather, we are the Plateau’s self-appointed leaders who have taken charge to plan and make sure the demonstrations stay nonviolent and in control Our main goal is to responsibly and constructively advise and promote the voices of our fellow citizens.

“We want to be clear that we are not affiliated with any group of demonstrators flying the Russian flag or any other flag other than the Nigerian flag.

“Since it compromises the integrity of our cause, we implore security personnel to apprehend anyone they witness participating in such behavior. Such acts are not indicative of our movement. He said,

“It has also come to our attention that certain elements are planning to incite looting and vandalism, in opposition to the peaceful manner in which we have conducted our protests over the past four days.”

The spokesman emphasized that the coalition vehemently disapproved of these behaviors and urged security personnel to apprehend anyone seen partaking in them.

He went on to say that the movement was committed to nonviolent advocacy and that any kind of violence or destruction would not be accepted.

Vilret urged Nigerians to stay law-abiding and to never give up on the dream that their country will one day be great again.

He emphasized that the coalition remained firmly committed to good change and that they thought they could create a better future for the country by working together and advocating peacefully. (NAN)
