Putin warns that Moscow’s response will be “instant” if anyone tries to take on Russia
Ukraine entered a month-long state of emergency at midnight on Thursday
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ukraine’s President Zelensky has confirmed reports of missile strikes in the country.
Reuters quoted his as saying that Russia has carried out missile strikes on Ukraine’s infrastructure and on border guards.
Zelensky has called on his national security and defence council to declare martial law.
The council is expected to hold an urgent meeting to decide the issue.
Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has condemned Russia’s “reckless attack” on Ukraine.
In a post on Twitter, he says it “puts at risk countless civilian lives”. “This is a grave breach of international law & a serious threat to Euro-Atlantic security,” he adds.
He says Nato allies will meet to address Russia’s “renewed aggression”.
