Technology Have Been Used To Track Fraudsters – CP Alabi

Lagos State Police Commissioner CP Sylvester Alabi has disclosed how the use of technology has helped police track down scammers and said it has helped curb the occurrence of crime in the state.

He added that the police have an excellent platform that has assisted them in policing the country.

After receiving an award as NAOSNP Best Commissioner of Police from the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) in Lagos, he spoke to our correspondent and asked for the support of citizens to make the business of policing less of a chore.

“Police work is everyone’s business. One of our policy thrusts is intelligence policing, and to do that effectively we need to engage citizens.

“They must be motivated to support the Nigerian police and other security agencies to ensure the safety of life and property.

“The community needs to be involved and that is why we are expanding community partnership and engagement through regular meetings with division police officers and area commanders as police cannot do this alone.

Such an interface improves intelligence and information sharing.

“If we can get them to work with us, we can rest assured that our community is safe and secure.

We cannot work in isolation from community members.

While he assures members of the public that they voluntarily provide information and those who volunteer information to the police would protect their identities with the utmost confidentiality, CP Alabi allays their fears of not being afraid of their identities being revealed.

“Any information or intelligence reports given to the police will be kept strictly confidential.

Gone are the days of revealing people’s identities.

“Nobody does that again and if you do that it becomes counterproductive and we wouldn’t benefit from it.

We encourage people to give us information and information.

“People on the ground know who is who as the police cannot be everywhere and so in all our non-governed places we rely on them to assist the police in policing those areas by providing intelligence and intelligence exchange.

Also at the conference, Badinson Security Services Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Matthew Ibadin, spoke in favor of an inter-agency academy that would further cement a harmonious relationship and promote greater cohesion among security agencies.

He commended NAOSNP for their ingenuity in organizing such a far-reaching security conference, adding that the topic is appropriate and timely given the security issues the country has been grappling with lately.

The well-attended conference had other honorees including Maj. Gen. Ike Nwachukwu (retd), former Secretary of State who received the NAOSNP Lifetime Achievement Award; NSCDC Commander Eweka Okoro – Lagos State Command who was NAOSNP State Commander of the Year and Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide – Sector Commander, FRSC Lagos Sector Commander who was NAOSNP Sector Commander of the Year, and Prince (Dr.) Ifalade Oyekan – GM, LNSA, NAOSNP Security Agency Personality of the Year.
